I don’t want to talk about 2016, or New
Years resolutions or anything like that. It’s not because 2016 was bad, it was
fine for me, except for a few awesome people passing away (Prince, Carrie
Fisher, George Michael, etc). The
holidays were great, got to see my nieces and the whole fam and we had a nice
Christmas. I’m actually ridiculously excited about something that has become a
temporary obsession. That’s sort of how I work. I fixate on something until I
accomplish it or get it out of my system. I want it and I want it now! It can be a good thing, I find it very
motivating, but it can also be frustrating when you are trying to accomplish
something and you have to wait. So what is the silly thing? I’M REDECORATING MY
BEDROOM! I know right? How can I be so very excited about this? Well I am and I
think it’s good to be happy about the little things, because the big things
don’t happen everyday.

So I have all the new furniture set up. We
have lovely new white bedside tables and a matching mammoth sized dresser. All
my Ikea stuff in there previously is being put into the guest bedroom
downstairs, and we took the bed from down there and put it in our bedroom. This was a nice change because I previously
had a low platform bed, and this bed is of normal height. It was weird the
first couple of days getting out of bed because I wasn’t used to it!

So there are still a few things I need for
the room, but that part is mostly done. I ordered this gorgeous grey headboard
online from Wayfair and it gets here in about 2 weeks. (I’ll be biting my nails
till it arrives!) I would like to get
some type of lovely panoramic sized canvas print for over the dresser, so I’m
currently scouring the net (does anyone say the net anymore?) for one. Other
than that I just need 2 new wall light sconces, but I know which ones I want,
so I just need to pick them up.

The real holdup is the actual renos we’d
like to do in there. I’ve picked out a dove grey color for the walls and I want
to wallpaper just the one wall behind the bed. A feature wall if you will! See below an example of what kind of
wallpaper I’m thinking of. At the moment I’m really into the whole arabesque
tile/moroccan print thing.

the current carpet is 15 plus years old and gives me nightmares. I hate carpet,
no matter how much you clean it, you never know what grossness is lurking there

closet doors as they are currently poop brown. (not a fan) So that’s fun!
Hopefully Joey will be home long enough one of these days that we can get a
proper start on it all! Super excited and will have to do a blog when
everything is completed.

So I’ve decided
to share some of my progress, as it were. I’ve said before that I don’t really
like to do a progress report, play-by-play type of blog or facebook posts. I
prefer to post it all at the end when I have the results. So yay! My progress
right now is that I have lost 11 POUNDS! Some people would argue I’m sure that I
didn’t need to lose weight. And they’re actually not exactly wrong. Not like I
was super overweight or anything. It’s just been since I started my desk job,
I’ve gone from active waitress to sedentary office worker. Didn’t change my
eating habits at all from when I was more active, so that’s how that happened.
At my heaviest I weighed 143 pounds, and I’m 5’5. Like I said, not huge, but it
still bothered me. My clothes were all tight, and I didn’t feel good in my own
skin. I did notice I was a little rounder in the face and I was losing my
waistline. I know what I’m used to and I know what I like and when I’m not at
my healthiest. Was also feeling more tired. So I decided to make a change. I
went on the Ideal Protein diet, which worked really well for me. I’’ll attach a
link below to their website if anyone wants to know more about it.

http://www.idealprotein.com/

Basically, it’s
very similar to a paleo diet. No rice, starchy vegetables like potatoes, no
bread or pasta, no dairy, no fruit and NO SUGAR. I know that sounds horrible,
but it isn’t that bad. I got to have things like chocolate shakes and maple
oatmeal for breakfast, vegetarian chili and cream of broccoli soup for lunch,
and chicken stir fry and steak with roasted cauliflower for dinner. Plus a
snack like a chocolate bar or BBQ chips. They have a lot of the food pre
packaged and you eat a lot of fresh vegetables. It only took about 1 and a half
months for me to lose the weight.

So now I am down
to 132 pounds, and I have about 5 more to go for me to be where I want to be.
But I feel great! My pants fit me again and I’ve got my waist back. The other
great thing that I noticed was that because I cut out the SUGAR, I have
improved skin, energy and have lowered my yeast levels (if you’re a girl you’ll
know how helpful that is!). Something surprising that I noticed during this
diet was what I craved a missed food wise. Not pasta or mashed potatoes, but
sugar! Which makes sense if you are on a no sugar diet. But I was still amazed
with how much it impacted me. I’ve never been a real sugar person, more of a
salt person, I don’t eat much chocolate or sweets or ice cream. I don’t even
let pop in the house, and I recently stopped drinking juice except occasionally.
So I was really surprised when I realized my biggest craving on this diet was
sugary things. Cakes, cookies, muffins, chocolate bars, things I never had much
interest in before suddenly looked so incredibly good to me. I always knew that
sugar was bad for us, and that sugar was in everything, but I started to do
more research. Boy is it really in everything! Ketchup, soy sauce, salad
dressing, pasta sauce. Now mind you I did know some of this and don’t use too
many condiments and try to cook mostly from scratch, but still! Think it’s
those fries or cheeseburgers that are making you gain weight? Well they are but
it’s likely sugar that’s the main culprit. I watched a couple of really
incredible documentaries that explained it, which I will attach below.

I also started
going to the gym 3 times a week, usually 2 days of cardio and weights and one
day of yoga. The yoga is really the thing that is taking it to the next level,
do I ever feel it the next day, but it is a great feeling, that achy sore
feeling of knowing you gave your muscles a challenge. I’m not shredded or
anything ….yet, but I do feel better. I’ve noticed I’ve been sleeping super
hard lately, I think because the workouts just tire me out, but in a good way.

Since I’ve first gained
weight, I’ve had a family member comment on my weight in a negative way (or
rather that I perceived negatively!) That really surpised me because most
people thought that I was a pretty good size just the way I was. Of course that
statement did hurt my feelings a little, but in no way is it why I decided to
lose weight and eat healthier. I did it for me. Instead of taking it
personally, I decided to take a different approach and have it motivate me. Every
time I was tired, and didn’t want to work out or wanted to cheat on my diet, I
envisioned that family members face, telling me I was fat, or telling me I
couldn’t do it. And I would plow right through and succeed! Not that I didn’t
ever have any slip ups, but it sure helped encourage me.

Things I actually care about.

I realized, looking back on my last blog
post in 2013, that I was just at the beginning of an awesome, mind bending
journey of knowledge and experiences that changed my life forever. Wow! So many
things have altered the course of my life permanently and wonderfully. There
were a few that stung a little, but those were more of “ignorance is bliss”
occurrences. (which I will commit an entire blog to separately!)

Where do I begin? Point form seems to be
the way to go:

#1 – The beginning of my journey
undoubtedly started with food. I had been getting increasingly more and more
ill as time went by, finally realizing that feeling this way was not the norm.
I was having horrible stomach problems and mood swings constantly to the point
where both were interfering with my life. I decided I’d had enough, and started
trying new ways of eating; omitting all the things I thought might be bad for
me. It was quite the process of elimination; I went vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian,
gluten free, etc. All different diets. I also educated myself about food. That,
coupled with the difference I saw in my health, led me to realize how poor my
food education had been, and how the general public has been bamboozled about
food their whole lives. Many facts we know to be true about food are wrong. So
it led me to wonder if we are being lied to about something as basic as food,
what else are we being lied to about? Therein lies the reason for #2.

#2 – Conspiracy theories. Well yes and no.
It is only called a ‘conspiracy theory’ in my opinion if you don’t believe it.
Now I’m not saying I believe in all the stories floating around, but there are
a few that to me, have merit. Like I said, if we are being lied to about food,
we are being lied to about a whole lot more.
When I started to have an open mind, and do some research and talk to
people; educate myself so to speak, I found out a load of things that blew my
mind, and not in a good way. I’m not going to go on about them. For me, it’s
important to just put forth the information. If someone has an open mind and
wants to look into it further, then so be it. I think the most important factor
is that we have access to the information. From there, we can decide if it’s
something we’d consider or not. Knowledge is power and the whole thing. Keep in
mind though, that most people don’t really enjoy bursting the bubble of comfort
and safety they’ve been living in, and so tend to refute anything that conflicts
with that. Think matrix, blue pill, red pill paradox. Ignorance is bliss. Until
it’s not.

#3 – Self Reflection – Now I mean really
getting down to the heart of things. Think microscopic. I really have found
that the more the years go by, my default is to really reflect on my actions,
right or wrong, and what makes me, well, me. I think in small ways, we are
always changing. No one always stays the same. Or they shouldn’t. I know that
no matter how much I figure things out, I’ll always make a mistake (which I
can’t stand sometimes but have to accept). I’m always finding out new things
about myself, which I find fascinating. Lately though, I’m really trying to be
a better person. Not that I’m normally an asshole (although I’ve had my
moments), but I just really want to work on being a more patient, well rounded,
kinder human being. Patience isn’t always my strong point, and I also tend to
have foot in mouth syndrome at times. That being said, I’ve noticed as per my
previous blog that limiting my drinking has really helped with that. I’m
enjoying the results, so I’m just going to keep moving forward in that
direction.

Each of these points will I’m sure at some
point have their own blog. There’s just so much content to cover and I don’t
really feel like writing a novel today.
I will put all the links below that started me on my path, and hopefully
some of you will be interested enough to maybe take a peek at some of them. I
promise you won’t be disappointed. Even if it’s not your cup of tea, it never
hurts to get another viewpoint, right?

It all started with having a couple drinks at home after work to destress a couple times a week. Then it was 4 or 5 times a week and I couldn't wait to get home to have my drinks. I started to realize I was looking forward to happy hour just a little too much and I wanted to figure out why. I wanted to be high on life. I also wanted to eat better and lose some weight. There are a lot of calories in booze!

So I stopped drinking for a month. The first week or so was the hardest. Life seemed so boring without it. I know how ridiculous that sounds! The good news was I really started to fill my time with other things that were more productive and interesting. Don't get me wrong I still craved a glass of wine and some cheese now and then (did I mention I'm not eating any dairy right now either?) But the cravings weren't ruling my world. I was feeling better every day.

I finally had a couple glasses last Saturday with dinner. The first glass was nice. After that it was just meh. Then I had 3 glasses last nite with some wings with friends. The first 2 glasses were nice but I really didn't need the third. I wasn't hungover or anything but I realized how it impacted my behavior. I didn't get rowdy or say anything bad but your behavior does change when you've had a few. I'm learning I really don't like that. I'm an expressive person on a normal day and drinking just amplifies that to an annoying degree. So it was great to have that reminder because I don't need to drink to have a good time anymore. If you need to have a drink to have a good time there are some issues that need facing.
You know what I don't miss about getting drunk? Falling down and hurting myself, embarrassing myself and others, saying something mean or hurtful to someone and binge smoking to name a few things.(pretty much quit smoking as well too!) Only time I want to smoke is when I've had more than 1 or 2 but it's slowly getting non existent. I don't care if you can say this but I am proud of myself! I want to be healthy and happy and have as little regret as possible! Im trying to keep the foot in mouth comments you get from drinking to a minimum! I tend to be hyper critical of myself. Spending half the next day regretting/analyzing stupid drunk things I said is a horrible way to spend my time.

It doesn't mean I'll never enjoy a nice glass of wine. It just means I'm keeping it to once a week and maybe 2ish glasses. There's always the odd special occasion of course. In general though, I have to say I'm much happier now that I've made this change. Now if I could just do something about my hormones and hit the gym more I'd be set. (Physical health wise anyway;I'll say nothing about my mental health!)Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-83935576318437784382016-09-21T13:10:00.002-07:002016-09-21T13:10:23.327-07:00Here we are again

I can’t believe it’s been so long since my
last blog. I tend to get really caught up with life, as we all do, and then I don’t
take the time to do these things. Well that’s only really half true. The other
half is that when I’m not fully satisfied with something (or many things) I
tend to go inward and don’t really feel like sharing. I’m also not one of those
people who feels the need to share every little thing in my life: what I ate
this morning, 30 pictures of my dogs, etc. I’m not bashing people who do; it’s
just not for me. I do enjoy seeing my friends post details of their everyday
lives, especially when I don’t get to see them very often, I just can’t be
bothered to do the same lol. But I digress.

Now this may sound like I’m saying the
reason I haven’t blogged is because I haven’t been happy with things. Not at
all. I just didn’t feel like it. Also I’m not really into sharing the journey,
I’d rather just skip to the end when I have things how I want them. I feel like
I see people chat up their intentions all the time (of course it’s great to
have goals and strive for them), but I feel like a lot of the time it’s just
blah, blah, blah the same thing over and over again but no results are going to
come, or if they do, they don’t last. For me personally, I’d rather just do it
rather than talk about it endlessly. Then, when I share the results at the end,
it’s a surprise. I don’t have to worry about people asking me, “Oh, how’s that
going so far?” and feeling discouraged because my results aren’t where I’d like
them to be. Now this is relevant to everything from losing weight, to
redecorating the house or even knitting a sweater. I do these things to please
myself, not others, but sometimes the stress of explaining your progress can be
a buzz kill. (To me, anyway)

It impacted me immensely, but in no way do I feel that others will feel the same. All I want to do in this case is share knowledge, and people can glean from it what they will. I feel a moral responsibility to share this with others. I know many people already know about this, so I may not be sharing something new. It's not really about that though; instead it's about the fact that for your whole life you have been lied to. We know there are many dishonest people and corporations in the world. We know the government is less than forthcoming with many things. How many times has there been some scandal or another gracing the front page of the newspaper?

So here's a big fat lie. Read the link and decide for yourself...
www.saveourbones.com/osteoporosis-milk-myth/
I didn't just go to the first page I found on the internet and decide to trust this was true. I did a lot of researching and fact checking so that I could be sure this wasn't a lie. I don't believe that knowing that milk is bad for you will change your life forever. But I prefer to think of it in a different sense. Your whole life you were taught to believe that milk 'does a body good'. Milk, yogurt, cheese, oh it is all a great source of calcium, which is so important for healthy bones. So we'd better hurry up and get as much as possible! We were all puppets in the milk marketing machine.

How many of you as kids saw how fast your house went through that 4 litre plastic jug of milk every week....even every day? For the better part of your life it was a belief, a value that was ingrained in you that milk was good for you. So it must be true, right? I don't mean to not give people credit, I've met many people who know that it's a lie, or at least try to consider it. I also meet people that straight up won't even consider the possibility that milk is bad for them. And I'll tell you why they think that way. I get it, I really do. It was hard for me too. It's a breakdown of your entire life's belief system. It's like me coming to you and saying, "You know how your whole life you thought blue was blue. Well it's not, it's actually green." You'd think I was mad, you wouldn't want to believe me. Just imagine for a minute that I was right, that society lied about colors to you for your whole life. Ok, it's a silly analogy, but that's how silly people sometimes think I am for telling them the whole 'milk is bad' thing. But if you allow yourself to consider it, doesn't it make you mad that you've been lied to this whole time? Doesn't it make you wonder what else you've been lied to about? Don't you want to try to discover for yourself what is real in this world and what is not?

To me, anyhow, it was one of many small discoveries that created a spark in me, to learn more about how we have had our values shaped for us by the higher ups. My real point here is just this. QUESTION EVERYTHING. Don't blindly accept things just because it was how you were raised or it's what everyone else does. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. The problem is, the government and corporations don't want us to obtain that knowledge because they know what we would do with it and we wouldn't follow their ways anymore. Milk companies have spent billions of dollars perpetuating a lie to us to keep us buying their product. They know they'd lose a lot of business if more people knew the truth. I just feel like people have a right to know that, they can do what they want with the information. But just let them have it! Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-46244927049530987452013-08-12T07:08:00.000-07:002013-08-12T07:14:53.878-07:00Don't give up After about 5 hours of fitful dreams, I found myself awake this morning at 530am. This is in no way typical for me; I am a good sleeper normally. I found myself laying in bed trying to figure out what had me so twisted up and anxious. It occured to me that I had allowed myself to temporarily 'believe the hype', and had become discouraged. I'm already shaking it off, and returning to normal. I'm glad that I have the constitution to be able to do that, I have been known to hold onto certain things in the past. Still do sometimes, but I'm working on that. I feel this saying of

is very true, and it took me a long time to learn how to be the kind of person who could let things go. Doesn't mean I'm cured, just means I am much more inclined to not let things stop me. In no way does this mean I am referring that there is someone in my past I am still hurt about. It's more about the philosophy that I have been through that and now know how to let go...most of the time! But I digress. How did this all begin?
Recently, as in the last 3 years of my life, but more specifically in the last year, I have been doing some very serious thinking. I feel as though in the last year I have come across more knowledge and revelations then I have in my whole lifetime! Trust me when I say it has been a lot to take in, but nothing that I couldn't handle. I just needed to teach myself how to accept and process things in a new way. Again, doesn't mean I've near mastered it. I figure practice makes perfect, so I'm just going to keep on trying and learning. All of this has forced me to truly re-evaluate what is important in my life, what do I really value. The short answer would be family, loved ones and quality of life. QUALITY OF LIFE! The long answer is one I am going to be happy to start sharing my thoughts on here with everyone, as I have already been doing in my day to day life.
Now, in order to create the life I now want for myself, it is going to require drastic changes for myself. Initially I had to start small, and slowly sell myself on these changes. The great thing was, the more I did that, the more it worked! I began to get really excited about my life, about my future, more so than anytime in my life ever! Does this not seem like a reason to rejoice? Yes.....and no. I am smart enough to not 'put the cart before the horse', and not create a fantasy future image in my head. Nothing in reality can compete with that if you do that. I don't think its healthy to think the grass is greener on the other side. I have done that before and it's never been good for me. Rather, I'd like to think, it's not really about the 'grass' this time, but rather what being on the grass is going to allow me to do with my life.
I have decided, however, that until my life changes are starting to be in effect, that I'm not going to talk about them to everyone, and glorify them. No, I'm not making promises I'm not going to keep this time. But that doesn't mean I'm not so so excited for them!
Now, my funny sleep patterns last night stemmed from me having a moment of doubt before I went to bed. Was I making the right choices, and for the right reasons? Was I really going to be able to do it, stay with it? I believe doubt is healthy in small doses. It is your minds way of telling you that there's still something that needs more thought or work. Thankfully, it was a case of small doubt. I was able to sort it out in my mind this morning, and am now more resolute then ever. I can tell you that I have never been more determined in life then I am right now. Haha you doubtfairies, Laleh wins again!
So the moral of the story? Don't give up.Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-74945893067670309742011-08-25T10:18:00.000-07:002011-08-25T10:18:10.067-07:00my new dietSo I have been figuring out some things about myself lately, and I have realized....I can't eat like I'm 20 anymore! Waaaaahhhh. This has been an ongoing problem, to those of you who know me well, I have had stomach problems for years. I've always known that my stomach gest really mad at me for eating crappy, but it's definetly gotten worse over the years. I don't go out to Mcdonalds all the time or eat fast food, and I very rarely drink pop or eat junk food. Still, it's more about the fact of eating over processed foods or foods of covenience; things with too many sugars, starches or preservatives. I've always known that my yeast levels are high and this summer they went through the roof and caused me alot of health problems, never to mention the normal bloating and gut rot my tummy was putting me through.

It all came to a head when I went home to sask and was travelling around. Well we all know you don't eat as well when vacationing. It was all so go go go, so that I didn't really have time to eat well. Unless I was going to get a salad when we went to Mcdonalds, and you know I'm not going to do that when everyone else is having a burger! Again, it wasn't all 'junk food', but lots of carbs and a lack of any proper fruits, veggies or FIBRE in general is gonna do that to you. By the second day I got to my moms I was a mess and spent the better half of a day in bed. Of course to her it looked like I wasn't taking care of myself, and she gave me the naggy mom lecture, which frustrated me even more. Suffice it to say, I felt I had hit a wall and enough was enough. By the time I got home I was committed to turning over a new leaf. But then it was off to Vegas 3 days later so that didn't help! Surprisingly I ate pretty good in Vegas, that was partially because I didn't want to be sick during my trip! (pepto is my best friend, how sad!)

Now I am home, and slowly but surely, through lots of effort on my part, my body is sorting itself out and I am feeling better. I went grocery shopping and bought a fridge full of fruits and veggies, spelt bread, lactose free milk, sugar free and gluten free products(buckwheat waffles rock!). Because I am learning, through depriving myself of certain things, and then reintroducing them, that I definetly have some food sensitivities. I have noticed that milk, or rather lactose is most certainly a culprit; if I eat ice cream or anything straight milk, like milkshakes or cream soups, I get super bloated and yucky. Although yogurt, goat cheese and super aged cheese like old cheddar seems to be fine, so I get my dairy fix too. Interesting fact; did u know that super aged cheese has virtually no lactose in it? So it's good for all you sensitive cheese lovers. I still get my cereal in the morn due to the lactose free milk, and eggs are fine too. So I'm not suffering that much, I've just had to readjust some things. No pasta for now and limited white rice, and cut down in the sugar, which I'm learning is in EVERYTHING. I've got naturally sweetened jam and stevia, which helps. And I'm really learning to read the ingredients of anything I buy. Basically, if I can't pronounce it, I'm not buying it. So I'm eating at home alot, but I'm enjoying it, cooking new recipes and trying new things. I'm really excited about it and think it'll really pay off in the end!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-87608791840414273122011-08-25T09:47:00.000-07:002011-08-25T09:47:27.904-07:00checking inWhere to start? I feel like its been fovever since I blogged, well it has been almost 4 months. It was a combination of busy, working, vacationing and just being a little lazy about blogging. Gotta keep this point form or it'll take forever. Justin came to see me for a week in July, which was nice, I feel like I don't see my little bro enough so it was nice to spend time with him. He is going into grade 12 and of course is in his teenagery years so there's a lot of growing to do still but I'm hoping he figures it all out!
Its been a whirlwind month, I went home to saskatchewan to visit family and friends for a week, and then went to vegas after that. All I can say is as nice as those trips may have been, I am so happy to be home! Travelling wreaks havoc on my body and digestive system. I will leave descriptions of both home and vegas for another blog, there's a lot to share there! For now I am glad to be home and back into a normal work/life routine. I am actually looking forward to fall, and buying some new boots and jackets and scarves. Summer was nice, but we here in Vancouver didn't have that nice of a summer until august, so I am kind of over it and ready to see it go. Maybe it's because I'm excited over all the fall shopping I get to do!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-63192970233731753212011-05-28T00:21:00.000-07:002011-05-28T00:25:50.675-07:00OMG I love my conditionerI don't often do this, but I love these products so much i have to rave! First is my Organix shea butter conditioner.

It's thick and makes my hair soft and silky, but the main reason I love it is just for the smell alone! It's sweet and tropical and oh so acddictive!I find myself getting crazily excited for showertime just so I can get a good whiff of this conditioner. And it's not only me that feels this way. I met up with my brother the other day, and when I hugged him he said, "Your hair smells so good!"
Continuing with the hair trend is my Live Clean Argan Oil Smooth and Shine cream.

I got a haircut recently, and my hairdresser said my hair was really dry; in part because of my styling products. I have curly hair so I need to use products to control the frizz and define my curls. She said alot of products like mousse and gel have alcohol in them, which is drying for your hair, and to try a hair creme instead and see if it made a difference. Well it has. I love this stuff. This and a little hairspray to finish and my hair is good to go! This stuff smells great too and leaves my hair soft and frizz free. I don't have to use alot, it goes a long way, so my hair doesn't feel weighed down at all. Plus it has argan oil, which is a natural oil thats a great moisturizer. So there u go.
Argan infused products are becoming popular, and I'm a big fan. I'm also loving my Josie Maran Argan Oil Lip treatment.

It comes in this cute little pot and works wonders. For some unsolved reason, when I am stressed, or even if I use certain face products or my skin gets too dry, I've been getting this weird little rash on the corners of my mouth. Its red and cracked and not comfy at all. Ever since I've started using this I don't get the rash at all. Plus it smells and tastes great too. Its not greasy but it gives a nice light shine to my lips. My only (small)complaint is that it doesn't last super long and I have to apply a couple times. But over all I'm very happy with it. I like to put it on at night right before I go to bed so it can sink in and do it's work!
These are all little things that make my life a bit easier, but sometimes you have to enjoy the little things. The big things don't always come along often, so why not get joy where you can?Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-26703172021832676892011-04-08T14:43:00.000-07:002011-04-08T14:43:27.941-07:00I love my new job!Just a little blurb here to follow up; I am so happy that my ship finally came in! All those months of worry and struggle have paid off, I feel like I'm getting back some of my good karma at least. My new job is great, I've been at it a couple of weeks. Everyone is so nice and helpful, works hard, and it's a professional but fun atmosphere. My employers do everything by the book and care about their business and employees. Im treated well, feel valued and am given 5 good shifts a week. The customers are nice, unpretentious and generous. We are almost always busy and I always have something to do. It's getting nice out now and we are getting busier every day. So all in all Im super happy with my work, it's about time! I've been able to start catching up on things and bills in my life and even treat myself here and there. I can't tell you how good that feels!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-661951169629101452011-03-22T13:42:00.000-07:002011-03-22T13:42:35.337-07:00New new jobI've had the opportunity finally to catch up with myself and do a little self reflection on the last couple of months. Boy it's been an interesting ride! I've been through about three different jobs; one that still has not paid me for 8 weeks of work, one that laid me off, and one that only gave me 2 shifts and then 'were not busy enough to give me anymore'. I experienced many different emotions at this time, from despair, hopelessness and anger, to happy optimism and inspiration. I am glad that the worst of it is over, let's just say I am viewing my current circumstances with hesitant optimism. With that being said I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. I have a new job(again), which seems to have the most promise out of all my recent work exploits, and I am eager to see if my initial feelings are true. It is a lounge/restaurant on commercial drive, close to my place, and seems to be fairly busy most of the time. They recently renovated the whole place, and it has a good vibe. They have 40 beers on tap and have a ton of flat screens to catch the hockey games and ufc flights. It also looks like the girls make really good tips. I've worked 2 shifts so far and my third is tonight; they said I would be getting a larger section as well which gives me a bigger challenge. So I'm crossing my fingers that the third time(job!) is a charm! I have many goals that I've put on the back burner for too long, due to not having a stable job, so I'm hoping this will enable me to get back on track!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-82493584269721712152011-03-16T15:49:00.000-07:002011-03-16T15:56:01.888-07:00Guilty pleasuresWhat are your guilty pleasures? I definetly know what mine are; they range from tv programs to food items and lots of girly things. But I thought it would be fun to actually make a list of them. (just to see how sinfully indulgent I really am!) Now remember that quite often guilty pleasures are bad for your health or wallet, that's why we call them that!

1. My fave t.v shows! This is a list of have to have to have to watch every week or else! Smallville, House, The Real Housewives of OC, and Being Human. Right now I'm really loving Being Human, it's this new series on Syfy, and the story and actors are really good. Ok, I have to admit I am a sci/fi freak, and I'm partially influenced by the fact that I am in love with the guy that plays Aiden the Vampire (Sam Witwer). He is soooo hot!

Real Housewives of Oc is my girly pleasure for sure. Filled with drama, shopping and lots of bling! What more could a girl ask for!It caters to my 'what if I were a millionaire' side. I do take it for what it is though....shallow. But after all this a blog about guilty pleasures!

Also as a general sidenote, I also love almost anything on the Space channel, so that's a guilty pleasure for sure, I can leave it on and usually theres something on there that I'll watch. Favorites are definetly anything Stargate or Star Trek. Yes, we have established the nerd factor, get over it! Also love love love W network, HGTV, and Food Network, for the obvious reasons of interior design and food, but I'll get more into that later.

2. Ahhh, one of my favorite things in the world....food! Good thing I eat healthy most of the time, and have a good metabolism, because I love food too much! I'm going to start with the 'junk food', because thats deinetly the basis for guilt. No one feels guilty eating a piece of celery! I'm more of a salty than sweet person, but I do have some favorite desserts. But I'm going to start with savory. These are of course things I don't eat often but when I do I sure enjoy them! For snacks I love plain lays chips with a big bowl of onion chip dip. For canned crap I love any kind of chef boyardee. For frozen stuff I love a thin crust all cheese pizza with lots of ranch for dipping. For lazy cooking I love cheeseburger macaroni Hamburger Helper. For home cooked meals I love Meatballs in gravy with mashed potatoes. Favorite cheese for crackers is brie. For fast food junk I love a big fat cheeseburger and a poutine. Now for sweet. Favorite store bought ice cream is Ben and Jerry's chocolate with brownie chunks. Favorite 'I baked it myself' item is apple crisp or frosted cupcakes. Favorite pop is cream soda or root beer. Favorite chocolate bar is caramilk or bounty. Sigh....they all sound so unhealthily wonderful. Well these are the main junky things I eat when I want to be naughty!

In general, I also love greek, persian and italian food, but of course there's alot in those genres that are healthy. One of my favorite going out for dinner treats is the Keg, which I know is cliche, but it's always consistently good. I love to go there and get a garlicky caesar salad and a medium rare steak and wash it all down with a nice peppery shiraz. That's my idea of heaven!

3. This one is very simple. Shopping! Whether it be for clothes, shoes, electronics, makeup or home decor, I never get to do it enough for my liking, but when I do it I always feel a little guilty! Some of my fave stores are Sephora, Town Shoes, Aldo, Guess, Sirens, Winners, Lululemon, Mantique, HomeSense, MAC, Fairweather, Future Shop, Costa Blanca, and hehehe Walmart, never to mention all the cute little private owned boutiques like The Jean Queen and Rio Azul. Happy dreamy face ensues......

4. As a culmanation of many of these things, would cuddling with my puppy while eating my fave snack and watching my fave program be the ultimate in guilty pleasure? Look at that face!

Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-44041845033470884202010-12-20T03:03:00.000-08:002010-12-20T03:03:47.983-08:00Weird day good and badSo it's late and I am just winding down from work so this will be short but sweet. First I will start off with the good....I got a second job on friday, which I was so super happy about! It's at a nice restaurant downtown, more details later. So I worked every night this weekend at my banquets job, always until 230 in the morning, which is exhausting, my feet are about to burst into flames! It's very repetitive work, but the staff is usually pretty nice and you get to meet some nice people. So I'm not gonna complain too much about that bc I am so grateful to be working so much, as opposed to barely or not at all like before!
Today though, I did a training shift at 12 in my new job, then went straigh from there to the banquets job until midnight. I knew it was gonna be a long day, but I consoled myself with the fact that I knew I had moonday off to recuperate. The new job seems good so far and everyone there was really nice, so I'm crossing my fingers. They are fully booked on tues night for a big event, so I am working that and I'm hoping for good tips!
So now for the bad. Someone 'took' my phone today at the second job. It was at a big hotel and yes it was kind of my fault bc I was in a hurry and left it in the staff bathroom. But really, the staff bathroom? I mean you know it's an employees phone and u swipe it? My boss said nothing was turned in and even called up to the lost and found or front desk or whatever and nothing was turned in. Yes its a possibility that it might still get turned in but he even called it for me and it went right to voicemail on the first ring. It was fully charged, so to me that says that whoever has it turned it off for whatever reason. I hope they have a conscience and turn it in but I'm not optimistic at this point. It's sad that the world is turning out this way; I mean I know that not everyone would keep it, some would turn it in. It's just funny bc I recently found a phone at a club and I returned it to the owner. They came and picked it up from my house and wanted to give me a small cash reward but I wouldn't take it. I figure karma would appreciate the gesture. Ok, time to pay it forward people, you never know when u might need the good karma! Anyhow I have my old phone still and am going to bell in the morn to activate it. I feel so naked without my phone! So long story short, yeah I guess this isn't such a short blog! Just facebook me if u need to get ahold of me but my phone should be all good by tom afternoon again! Waaahhh my poor blackberry Im going to miss it! Unless of course someone turns it in but Im not holding my breath!
So in tears and feeling dejected, I am trudging to the skytrain and then realize that it's sunday and the last train is at 1215am! No biggie but at the time all I wanted to do was get the heck home as quick as possible as I was exhausted from the 12 hours.I took the bus and it didn't take that long, but it was just funny that I was getting such an ass kicking between that and losing the phone. Suffice it to say I am very happy to be home! Cuddles with dog and sleepytime is in order. My cathartic ramblings are done for the day!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-70060175110629602502010-12-16T22:15:00.000-08:002010-12-16T22:35:36.701-08:00Tree decorating and bakingSo, I had put it off for long enough and it just needed to be done! I am talking about putting up my xmas tree of course. It got me into the holiday spirit, which I needed. I am not going home for xmas this year, which is okay, because I am spending it with great friends, but I wasn't feeling as festive as I would have liked. Tree up, problem solved.

So I played friends on the television in the living room while I dressed the tree; felt all warm and fuzzy doing it! Since I seemed to be in a happy homemaker mood, I decided to make sugar cookies. Originally I would have loved to use christmas cookie cutters, but I had none, so I just made regular ones. But they turned out quite nicely; I covered them in a quick pink butter icing and some sprinkles. I know they are pink but I put them on an xmas plate I had just to be festive.

Now its time for milk, cookies, and family guy reruns. The tree lights are twinkling, the house warm and cozy and smelling like baking. Sigh. Sometimes its the little things that make you happy.Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-1844472067577642042010-12-15T22:32:00.000-08:002010-12-15T22:43:51.820-08:00Mcdonald's happy mealsOkay, I'm just giving my random thoughts on this. If you follow this link and read it, it saves me having to explain it all. Also, it is a little bit of a good read, or if you are me, offers a good laugh.
Listen, I'm all for the fast food restaurants providing better quality and more healthy foods, but let's get some perspective people. It's called fast food and junk food for a reason. We know it's not all that great for us; it's supposed to be a treat, not something we eat everyday. But that actually takes me to a whole other level of conversation about how it's cheaper to eat crap than healthful foods, which of course I beleive is wrong. Just google and watch Food INC if you haven't already, beacause it is an eye opener and a good show, and touches on all that. But I digress. My point here basically is that yes McDonalds happy meals do use the toys to lure the kids in, but it is up to the parents to monitor how often their kids go there, etc. I mean, grow a spine people. I wanted to smack the lady that made a comment about saying it's already hard to say no to kids and this is another thing to say no to. Oh well boohoo for you. My mom said no to me lots, it didn't crush my world or make me hate her. It's called being a good parent. Even as a child I knew, just like pop or candy, that McDonald's was a treat, not an all the time thing. In fact, that's what made it so much more special and enjoyable, because I knew it was a rarity. To me, it's just another thing for people to make a stink about. Trust me, to a degree I get their point and appreciate that they are trying to do something to better the situation, but honestly, I'd rather they take that effort elsewhere. Like worrying about starving children in Africa that would kill for a cheeseburger, or wars or human rights. To me, it's all about priorities. This is just my opinion.Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-55906800562930492042010-12-15T11:10:00.000-08:002010-12-15T11:15:24.947-08:00up to dateSo much has happened the last couple weeks. Thankfully, I did end up finding a job; maybe not my dream one but it's a means to an end right now. I'm working for Executive waiter resources, which is basically an agency that contracts you out to work banquets and events at different hotels. If you work something like 200 or so hours for this agency, after that you can go work at any of the hotels if they want to hire you. It's actually a pretty sweet opportunity, because it's a good chance you will get hired at one of the hotels, because they have been getting to know you already. The wages are surprisingly good too, I know at the hotel I was at last weekend, that the banquet staff average 19$ an hour. It is hard work, I have to say, but you get treated fair, eat for free, and get 30 min breaks. It's also good just working at the agency. You don't get as much per hour as you would being a permanent hotel employee, but you pretty much get to work on your own schedule. I phone the agency at the beginning of each week and tell them my availability and then they pen my shifts in. This is also good if you have another permanent job, which I still plan on getting. But this is a good start right now, I work all weekend, which I am happy to do. So yes of course this means that I am no longer at Fiasco. Soon, there will no longer be a Fiasco, thus the not working there. A little sad, but the risk you take opening a new restaurant.
I will be taking this next semester off from school to work and concentrate on life, basically. There's just a few things I feel I need to focus on in my life right now, and I need as much free time as possible to do that. I do feel that in the long run it will turn out to be a positive experience. I am wanting to save some money for travelling, school, loans and other things, which are all paramount to my happiness right now. This is a good thing, and I am looking forward to it!
One little sad thing; my daddy got into a car accident 2 weeks ago. He is ok, a little bruised and banged up, but not too bad considering. They say his nose is fractured/broken, so they will need to repair it soon. But my dad has had his nose broken quite a few times, so I know he is tough and can handle it. At the moment he is generally quite sore all over, which is normal after an accident. I told him he can expect to feel like that for awhile, the body likes to have a delayed reaction to these things for whatever reason. So of course I am beyond happy that he is okay; it sure puts things in perspective though. We so easily take both our lives and our loved ones for granted. It could have been so much worse, and thank God that it wasn't. But it only takes a minute to lose a loved one, if nothing else if made me want to be there more with the people I care about.
In addition, when my dad got into this accident, he crashed from head on and totalled his car/truck hybrid. I know this may sound silly, but both my sister and I were really sad when we heard this; we know how much my dad loved that car. Being a mechanic, he pimped it out, if you can imagine a 72 year old man, "pimping" anything, lol!It was his baby, he was always fixing and tinkering with it. He's had it at least since I was 12, it's sort of like his calling card. He was never going to sell that thing, and now it's just gone. Like I said, it may seem like such a frivolous thing to be upset about since he got in a bad accident. It's just we know how much it meant to him, and we know he will miss it a lot. It was his car baby. I think at some point later on I will write a lil blog about it, and give more explanation. I actually have some wonderful memories of that car, and will post pics. It was a very unique vehicle, no one's ever seen one like it.
Today, I am planning on staying home, chilling, and maybe putting up the tree! Tis the season and I really feel like getting in the mood. Nothing does that better than putting up the tree and maybe doing some holiday baking. In addition to that, I am looking for a new roommate for january first, so I've posted an ad on craigslist, and will be planning a viewing for sometime in the next 3 days. So I'm being kept busy with that. It is a little stressful, worrying that you will find someone, and find someone good, but I know it will happen. It's the 15th today, so I still have time, I just like to be prepared and not have it left to the last minute.
So it's been an interesting week, but things are starting to look up, I think. I have a reliable job again, and all my loved ones are alive and well. Everything after that is a bonus in my books!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-87706253769486308172010-12-08T15:01:00.000-08:002010-12-08T15:01:26.545-08:00CrazinessIt's been an interesting couple of weeks, to say the least. I'm getting ready for finals, which isn't actually anything too difficult or stressful as I only have 2 exams, and I am already well prepared for them. I'm more concerned with finding another job right now. My current/previous job has closed its doors permanently, so I am a free agent right now. Unfortunately, finding work has posed more than a bit of a challenge. Many places aren't busy or hiring, or if they are the competition is fierce. I've had more then one employer tell me that their job postings bring in responses of more than 500 resumes. It can be easy to get discouraged, but I am trying not to have that mentality. I went for 3 interviews this week, and hope to hear from one of them. I also redid my resume, polished it up a bit, along with my cover letter, and have been emailing them like crazy. I also have been going out and dropping off alot of resumes. My goal is to find something by the 15th, no matter what. I, as everyone else, have bills and xmas shopping I'd like to do in the near future!
The silver lining here is that I will be making some big lifestyle changes in the very near future that will help me to facilitate my life. I will also not be going back to school for January semester. At this point, I need to concentrate on working and getting my financial self in order. That does in turn end up helping me achieve my goals; that's the things about life, most goals cost money, whether they be finishing school, travelling, or buying a house. So I'm just going to concentrate on that and myself and my life and what I need to do to get to where I need and want to be.Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-71486108288259765982010-11-22T15:46:00.000-08:002010-11-22T16:04:29.587-08:00No moreIt used to be okay when I was young and impulsive and didn't know how to stand up for myself. But its not okay to be treated like this anymore. When in my early teens and 20's I did make a lot of mistakes, I did hurt some close friends of mine. I have tried to learn from my mistakes and become a better person. The problem is, as much as these friends of mine say they have forgiven me, obviously they have not bc past incidents are still being brought up. This is all I can say. Nothing I do ever seems to be good enough for them, whatever efforts towards friendship I make, its seems they think that everyone else is such a better friend than me, that somehow the things I do have alterior motives. That I'm trying to be sneaky. The truth is, I'm just not that devious, it's not in me to conjure up the meanest thing I could do to hurt someone. The truth is that I am being painted as a villain....as usual. My past mistakes, most of which were made over 8 years ago, must be the reason for this, as I have tried not to do anything dishonest since. The sad thing is, even though I did some stupid and hurtful things in my past, I never did them intentionally to hurt someone. Not that this makes it okay, but in turn I have friends who have intentionally in the past done things purposly knowing they would hurt my feelings. That is thought out, premiditated, and the worst betrayal of all. But I tried to be fair, I tried to take responsibility for what could have been my part in it, perhaps I did in some ways create some of the situations where people felt compelled to lash out at me in that manner. I know, at the time, that I was not perfect.
The problem now is, no matter what good intent I do have, these people always have something to complain about. I don't divulge enough of my life, or give enough of my time, or am trying to be sneaky in my actions. Those are some of the accusations I get. Honestly, I never pretended to be perfect, but I always stay in touch with these people, phoning often, trying to be kind, calling for bdays and christmas, etc. It is not enough. They have to complain to me about how I don't seem to be trying, or blogging hurtful comments that they know I will read. If nothing else, its the blog that hurts the most. Because I also know other people may see that and know who they are talking about. If I ever thought those things of a friend, I wouldnt want them to find out in that manner. What a hurtful thing to do. The arguement here is now the way I am handling this situation. No, I cannot take back the way I reacted to it, nor do I wish to. I had tried to call this person just to say hello the other day. They were not answering, I figured they were out. No biggie. It was only after that when I read their hateful blog. They then returned the call they missed from me, not knowing I had just read their blog. Of course by this time I had no desire to speak to them, and was so hurt. So I didnt answer. I also deleted them from some of my social networking sites. I know what that implies. It implies you are done with them. It hurts to say it, but no matter what I do or how nice I am now or how much I try, even if I became a doctor and had a perfect life and did everything right. It still would never be enough. Everything that happens and everything I do never seems right to these people. I don't know what it is, but it isn't love. These people do not love me, and surely don't seem to appreciate me or have much use for me. So what good am I to them? What good will I ever be if they always have something to be unhappy about? Thats not what I want; I want my friends to be glad they know me, are happy to have me in their lives and appreciate me. I want to be able to offer them something valuable and special. I don't want to mistrust and be mistrusted. After so long, is this still how you see me? As immature and devious and useless? Then what good am I? I will make life easier for you; I won't be in yours anymore. Maybe that makes me an asshole, for walking away. At least I'm willing to stand up for myself and not be around people who think so little of me. I no longer desire to be friends with people who basicall think they are better than me and always will try to make me feel inadequate. Oh, I'm sure the other side of the story will paint me in some evil manner. Don't worry I'm used to it. It does of course hurt me to make this choice, but what other choice do I have? I don't want to work it out or talk about it; it's just going to happen again and I don't want to have a life like that. I deserve more, even if someone thinks I'm a bitch. I know who I am and that's all that matters to me.Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-43129251153610108642010-11-19T13:06:00.001-08:002010-11-19T13:06:46.847-08:00Holiday workin'Well, I must admit, it's been a rough couple of months. I started a new job in september, but being a new business, we are having a little bit of slow opening blues. Ie: we aren't as busy as we'd like to be. With that being said, we have ironed out the major kinks and now have a kick ass menu and chef. We also have some good christmas parties coming in this season, to hopefully keep us busy, and make future steady clientele. I work with a great team of people, and I really do want to stick around and see how far we can go. However, I do have to pick up a second job in the meantime, which kind of has to be my bread and butter job; its really got to put some cash in my wallet until job number one becomes more profitable. Simple, right? Well it seems everyone has the same idea as me right now because the pickings are slim. Either everyone has already done their xmas hiring, or isn't hiring at all. But I am not to be discouraged. Small bit of good news is also that I do have an interview tonight, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that. I know it'll all fall into place soon, but I'm trying to plan for xmas and we all know that costs money! I'm planning to go home to saskatchewan for the holidays, so I need to buy my plane ticket soon, I don't like doing things like that at the last minute! I figure I've got some good karma coming my way, can I redeem it now?Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-79444687491171333192010-10-28T12:45:00.000-07:002010-10-28T12:45:24.693-07:00KarmaIt's so sad how things turn out sometimes. You always assume that your loved ones are going to support your decisions and, even if they don't like them, will come talk to you about them so that they can get the real picture, instead of jumping to the first and worst conclusion. You don't think they will go and spread around your dirty laundry because they are mad at you. That's not honorable. Whether it be family or friends, even if they have wronged me, I don't go and spill their thoughts, feelings or secrets to others the first chance I get. Two wrongs don't make a right. I may not be perfect, I have never implied that I am, but I would never dishonor myself or any of my loved ones in that manner. If nothing else, this situation has served to teach me who I can and cannot trust. Being ostrasized is never an enjoyable experience. But now I know that I am strong enough to stand tall, stand up for myself, and request that others take responsibility for their mistakes, I feel alot better. Just remember...karma doesn't discriminate against anyone. It holds everyone on the same level on the justice scale. What you give is what you get. So for those who have given poorly, karma has an appointment with you. I have given so much and gotten so little in return; but I know it's only a matter of time before that changes; so I am grateful for the life lessons, and will continue to try and do my best!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-63210759079585396362010-10-11T12:43:00.000-07:002010-10-11T12:43:43.743-07:00Thanksgiving revelationsI learned something important about myself last night. Well, not so much about myself as much as about the people in my life. Blood isn't always thicker than water. The word 'family' doesn't always mean relatives. Family are those people who love you, support you when you are down, are happy for you when you are happy, accept you for who you are, don't judge you, and most importantly, you can be yourself around them and fully enjoy their company! All I can say is I have some friends that fit the family bill better than my family does. I have decided that whoever actually fits into those parameters, blood or not, are the people I'd most like to spend the majority of my time with, on regular days or holidays. Don't feel obligated to be with people you don't make you feel good just because they are related to you. I know so many people who are completely miserable during the holidays because they think they have to spend them with their parents, siblings, cousins, uncles, etc, and they end up never having a good time. Being related, unfortunately, isn't a prerequisite for having to treat each other well. Now don't read into this too much. I'm not saying I'm being treated badly by anyone, because I'm absolutely not. It's more just a general feeling of not fully belonging, feeling like the outsider looking in. All I'm saying is I have people in my life that don't make me feel that way, and they're not related to me. But that doesn't make them any less important. In fact, it makes them more special because they're not my relatives; there's no moral familial obligation to be nice to me simply because we have the same dna.

Of course these feelings do not encompass my entire family unit; there are those who love me and accept me as I am and I fully enjoy them. They know who they are! All I can say to them is thank you for loving me with no judgement or limitations. It means so much to me!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-57902992121983577162010-10-10T13:53:00.000-07:002010-10-10T13:53:57.404-07:00Long overdueIt's been awhile. Partly for 2 reasons actually. First because my old laptop went to computer heaven so I didn't really have regular access to the internet. Second because I really didn't 'feel' like writing. Do you ever just feel like you have nothing to say? That's writers block for me, I just get in these modes where I don't have anything I want to say. I know, for those of you who know me that's sort of shocking right? Well, it happens to the best of us, right? It's not because I was depressed or anything, I just needed to process things, take a break from my mind; I feel like if I'm going to write I should have something relevant to say,(at least relevant to me) otherwise I shouldn't bother. So I'm going to try.

I read back on blogs I've posted in the past, and I get reminded of all the hopes and dreams and goals I have for myself. What it's made me realize is that I forget very quickly what those goals are unless they are screaming reminders in my face everyday. It's so easy to forget about what you want sometimes, it seems to get lost in the everyday problems of life, work, bills, etc. Time goes by so quickly and then you look back and realize all your dreams have been put on hold by all the bull that gets in the way. How do you manage to do the mundane things that you have to do everyday to survive (ie work) and then still have the drive or time or energy to remember that you need to pursue your passions as well? I guess that's one of the big reasons that I didn't feel like writing. I wasn't doing the things I wanted, wasn't pursuing them. Life goes by very quickly with just your job and school and chores to pass the time. It's like you take the time to look back on it and it's the same old story. I started out with all these goals, and yes I'm on the path to following some of them, but mainly, not so much. I had made a list of all these goals, but I didn't do what I should have with it. I didn't put it in my face. I didn't put it somewhere that I could see it everyday. That's what I need to do, I think that it would help. So that's what I'm going to do. End of story.

In other news, I got another job. It's in yaletown, and it's this great new italian restaurant/lounge called Fiasco. We just opened last week, and it's been going pretty good. We're relatively busy, but I know we'll get busier still, people just need to know we're there and we'll slowly grow from that. We have great food and cocktails plus live music and dj's on the weekend, so it's a great start. Plus I really love all the staff I work with, we have a great little team. Everyone is very experienced in the industry and really passionate about food and people. I'm excited to see where it goes! Come check it out if you're in Vancouver, and let me know how you like it! We are at 1168 Hamilton.

Besides that, I am in school part time. It's only one day, so I still have time for other things. I really need to start banking my christmas money now; I want to go home to saskatchewan this year. It's what I'm looking forward to actually. I haven't been home since last summer so of course I'm starting to get a little homesick. I think it'll do alot to boost my spirits. Yes I like xmas here, but PA is where I grew up and spent most of my holidays. It doesn't feel the same when I'm not home with them on the special days. Just like most families we have our own special traditions and I'm looking forward to that most of all.

Happy thanksgiving to everyone. Hope you have alot to be thankful for.Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-91430932578136831162010-06-06T12:43:00.000-07:002010-06-06T12:43:15.430-07:00Hit the wall!I did hit the wall, but not in a bad way. Let's just say I've had enough of waiting for things to get better, and now I actually feel driven and strong enough to actually go out and make it happen! I had an awesome time at work last night, all my customers were fun and engaging; I didn't feel like I was working, if only every day were like that! But there was this one couple in particular that were just spectacular. And I mean that in every sense of the word. They were celebrating their anniversary, and I must have spent half my shift just talking with them. They are both creatively artistic people like me, and 'bookies', ie people who love books and reading, and we had the most fun conversations! I just kept going by to 'pour their wine', and learned the most fascinating things. They could tell I was a big literature buff, and when I told them I was going to journalism school, they were not surprised. He himself is a writer, and she is an artist. I ended up telling them that sometimes it's really hard for me to write, and he said that I should try to find bit of time every day to write something, even if it's non sensical. It's just like any other muscle in the body, if you use it alot, it gets stronger. Of course I knew this, but it was nice to hear someone else say it, especially someone who's "been there". Although it wasn't an life changing conversation, it did give me something to think about, something I actually should be thinking about! So I guess we will see where these thoughts lead me!

Oh, and did you know that jose cuervo tequila is actually only 60% tequila and 40% something else? Apparently the creative couple are big tequila buffs, and they told me that. Hmmm, guess I'll have to google that to see!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6368259412999862424.post-26032502972329468892010-05-26T15:09:00.001-07:002010-05-26T15:09:37.127-07:00meSo I've been doing a lot of soul searching lately, and there are some things I've come to embrace about myself. I am flawed, just like everyone else; it is okay to not be perfect, it is okay to make mistakes. The point is that I am constantly on the journey of discovery, not just about life and knowledge, but also about myself. Who I am as a person. This is some of what I know so far.

I am an emotional, feeling person. I've often let my heart rule my choices. This is, obviously good and bad. What I am proud of is how far I've come with it. What I mean is that I'm so much smarter now when it comes to decisions of the heart. I'm not that blubbering, wide-eyed lovesick optimist that I was when I was younger. That doesn't mean I'm jaded, it actually means that I'm wiser, more well adjusted and know now what's right and what I will and will NOT put up with. Here's what I know for sure. Even when I've been knocked out mercilessly by loves hangover, I've found a way to rise above, overcome and try to learn better for next time. I'm very good at standing on my own two feet now. I'm super proud that not once in my life have I had a man taken care of me; I've always paid my own rent and bills! And I'm smart enough now to walk away from anyone that can't be real and treat me how I should be treated! Basic point, I won't do anything that hurts me, I love myself too much for that, and I feel blessed to even realize that!Lalehhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02505331920272547901noreply@blogger.com0
